Dorland Geomatics Inc. was first established in 1977 as D. S. Dorland Limited.

The company operates as one of the leading progressive and expanding growth oriented, legal, control and engineering survey practices in Northern Ontario. We have successfully undertaken and completed over 18,000 survey projects.

Our team consists of experienced and licensed personnel including accredited Ontario Land Surveyors all who are equipped to provide a wide range of services for projects throughout the Northern Ontario region.

Geomatics or Geospatial Technology is the discipline of gathering, processing and delivering accurate spatially referenced data. Land surveying is only one aspect of this field. Utilizing specialized tools and techniques, Geomatics Professionals use terrestrial, marine, airborne and satellite-based sensors to acquire and analyze critical spatial data.

This accurately measured spatial information has applications in large and small scale land surveying, assessment and management, planning, construction, development of urban and industrial infrastructure, natural resources, manufacturing and in the maintenance of a wide range of equipment and facilities.

James Dorland Appointed Director at PSC
Professional Surveyors Canada Director - Ontario

James Dorland Vice President and Project Coordinator at Dorland Geomatics Inc. has been appointed the Ontario Director of Professional Surveyors Canada. PSC is dedicated to building and enabling a strong multi-faceted community of surveying professionals commited to excellence.

An Ontario Land Surveyor since June 1995 he later completed a degree in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in 2008.

With extensive experience in the field and administration James has always passionately advocated for an integrated and dynamic Canadian surveying profession. His appointment as Director-Ontario Professional Surveyors Canada has allowed James to play a more active role in ensuring a continued progressive evolution of the industry for all stakeholders.


James is also active volunteering as Chair for the Legislation and Regulation Task Force for the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors.

The Legislation and Regulation Task Force is necessary to ensure that all legislation regulation that affect the AOLS and its members is current appropriate and effectual.
